Thank you for your interest in Hexulator, the hexadecimal calculator for Macintosh computers. If you use hexadecimal, Hexulator is the perfect tool for decimal/hex/binary conversion as well as for arithmetical and bitwise operations.
This manual explains all of the features of Hexulator and how to use the program to maximum effect.
NOTES:
• Hexadecimal values in the document are prefixed by "0x".
• Keyboard keys are shown in brackets.
• The clear entry / clear key is shown in the manual as [CE]. In hex mode, the [CE] key is the decimal point key [.] on the numeric keypad. In decimal mode, the [CE] key is the [clear] key on the numeric keypad.
• Due to improvements in the software, certain menu items or graphics elements of Hexulator may differ slightly from the pictures in this document.
• Some features of Hexulator will be unavailable to unregistered copies of the software. These are detailed in the manual.
Hexulator: overview of features
Hexulator is a calculator which can operate on both decimal (base 10) and hexadecimal (base 16) numbers. There are two 'versions' of the program, Basic and Extended:
Basic Hexulator: Basic Hexulator is displayed in a window slightly taller and narrower than the familiar "calculator" control panel. With basic Hexulator you can add, subtract, multiply and divide hexadecimal equations, decimal equations, or equations using both hex and decimal numbers. The binary display will show the binary equivalent of lower half (left four digits) of the hex register.
Range of Basic Hexulator:
• Four arithmetic operations on hexadecimal values from 0x00 to 0xFFFFFFFF ( 0 to 4,294,967,295).
• Four arithmetic operations on floating point decimal values from -2,147,483,647 to 2,147,483,648. (Technically, the upper limit is the same for hexadecimal numbers, but Hexulator will only display numbers within this range.)
Extended Hexulator:
When you register your copy of Hexulator you will be given a registration code which will unlock Extended Hexulator. Extended Hexulator offers all of the features of Basic Hexulator, plus these features:
• A scrollable tape which displays your calculations in hex.
• Three bitwise operators: AND, inclusive OR, and exclusive OR (called XOR) available as buttons and from the keyboard.
• The binary display shows your entire hex or decimal number in binary (not just the lower four hex digits)
• Access to the Edit menu, which allows you to manipulate the tape display as well as copy the register to the clipboard in hex, decimal, or binary.
• Four memory functions (memory recall, clear memory, add to memory, subtract from memory) appear as buttons on the display and are also accessable from the keyboard.
